Dream Into Your Future

I love gardening. I love combining the unique voices and needs of each plant into a symphony of color and texture that plays a different melody with every passing season.

Last spring, I added some bulbs to fill in the early season void where, by July, a crowd of Blacked-Eyed Susans and red and yellow Coneflowers erupt like a flash mob of color. I imagined a bold swath of color but when the new flowers finally came up, they looked more like straggling survivors.

This fall, I dug them up and replanted them into the tighter chorus I sought. I added some playful Alliums to the mix and threw in white Lilies while I was at it. To make room for them all, I had to move some of the cornflowers and rearrange a few other plants as well.

By the end, I was as muddy as the garden I had just rearranged, and satisfied as I could be. Standing in the fading fall light, I was filled with anticipation of seeing what I’d planted push up into the brightening world of spring. What comes up next spring may not be what I’m expecting, but that’s part of the fun.

Dreaming into the future and acting in the present to make those dreams real adds satisfaction to the present and builds excitement for what’s to come. It’s also a big part of creating the life and future you desire. While results may take some time to appear, the anticipation is part of the fun, and the outcomes are usually worth the wait.
